On May 2, we kicked off our very first Just Walk event, powered by Walk with a Doc at Bayfront Park—a free, one-hour walking program designed to bring the community together while promoting better health.
Each Just Walk session features a brief presentation on a different health topic, led by a local healthcare provider such as a physiotherapist, family doctor, registered dietitian, mental health counsellor, or other provider.

At our first walk, Jake Tumber, Physiotherapist, shared four key benefits of walking:
- Low-impact exercise: Ideal for those with hip or knee arthritis, especially with a gait aid like a cane or walker.
- Heart and lung health: Helps regulate blood sugar levels, strengthens cardiovascular health, and improves aerobic fitness.
- Mental well-being: Walking in natural environments—wooded areas, parks, or near water—reduces stress, depression, and anxiety, and boosts mood.
- Accessible and effective: One of the simplest ways to stay active with major health benefits.
Following the talk, participants enjoyed a scenic walk around Bayfront Park, connecting with the lead healthcare provider, meeting new people, and exploring the beautiful Hamilton waterfront, at their own pace.
Upcoming Just Walk:
- Date: Friday, May 23, 2025
- Time: 9:00 am to 10:00 am
- Location: Bayfront Park, 200 Harbour Front Dr, Hamilton, ON L8L 1C8 (Meet in the parking lot).
- Topic: Bladder Chatter: Laugh, Sneeze, Jump – Without Leaks
Our next Just Walk event will feature Veronica Wong, Physiotherapist, who has a special interest in pelvic health. She will break the stigma around bladder leaks, explaining why they are not just a “normal” part of aging or childbirth. There are steps you can take to strengthen your pelvic floor beyond simply relying on pads!

What is Walk with a Doc?
